The Secret Power Of Intentional Showers

"It is always only our own imagination that allows or prevents us from something"

Pierre Franckh

Have you ever struggled with letting go of emotions, energies, thoughts, pain, stress, anxiety? After a difficult day at work or at home, an argument, when you feel hurt or just simply haven't had a good day, it can sometimes be difficult to let go and move past it. One very powerful yet simple tool that can help us is taking an intentional shower.

Yes, a literal shower is a powerful way to physically and spiritually remove unwanted energy and call in all you want to bring into your day/night. This is also a great time to give thanks to your body for performing many functions that we oftentimes take for granted as well as giving thanks for other things you are grateful of.

To me, an intentional shower is both: a ritual and meditation and we can make use of it anytime and anywhere. At home, in a hotel room when travelling, at a friend's place etc. To me, water has a very special meaning, it is healing and liberating and maybe that is why these intentional showers are so powerful to me. By the way, it doesn't have to stop there, you can also try this ritual/meditation when you jump into a lake or pool or dive down into the ocean. The most important thing here is your imagination and your intention and I encourage you to just give it a try next time you feel like you could use it.

Benefits of intentional showers

#1 This simple yet very powerful method helps you and your body to release and any type of stress, emotions, anxiety, pain, unwanted thoughts and energy

#2 You are not only letting go of what you don't need anymore but also make room for anything that you welcome into your body such as peace, calmness, happiness, gratitude etc.

#3 It is a "meeting" with yourself and a type of self love

#4 You feel calm, light and at peace afterwards

#5 It is a beautiful way to practice mindfulness and be fully in the moment

How to get the best out of it

I am describing here my own way of how I do it but of course this is not set in stone. I encourage you to try what and how it works best for you. Feel free to adapt accordingly.

#1 Creating the ambiance

This may not be as important to you as it is for me :-) I normally dim/switch off the bathroom light, light some candles, put on some of my favorite relaxing music (one example is here) and spray some lavender or any other relaxing essential oils. Last but very important: switch off your phone!

#2 Setting your intention

This step is very important. Before taking the shower, think about what your intention is, what do you want to release and let go and what do you instead want to welcome in. Maybe an image comes to your mind then you can also work with that. Listen to your body/gut feeling and see what comes up.

#3 Taking your shower

Take your time, this is your time and you should not rush through it and see it as another to do, the benefits won't be the same.

Start running the water, use some of your best shower gel or soap to make it extra special and nice - you deserve it. Scents are quite powerful and influence us in many ways. Whenever you are ready, you can either say a little prayer or do some self talk :-) it is totally up to you.

One idea of a cleansing prayer can be the following:

"May I release all energies that are less than love. Help free my mind and body of all that no longer serves me. I send back any energies that aren't mine with love. I anchor into myself and the present moment."

I normally close my eyes, visualize the water washing away any stress, anxiety or energy that is not my own or that no longer serves me. I start from the top of my head and then "talk to the water" and tell it to wash all of that off my body and watch it then go down the drain. I try to really feel the water clear my space of thoughts and feelings. I do that as long as I need to. Once I feel that it is all gone, I then say out loud my gratitude towards my body and this ritual and welcome anything into my space that I need in that moment for example peace, love, courage, lightness, forgiveness, relaxation etc.

#4 After the shower

This part is as important as before the shower. We don't want to exit the bathroom and then rush to the next appointment, face a difficult conversation etc.

It is very helpful and advised that you nourish your body after the shower with your favorite body lotion or oil, change into change into new and fresh cloths and take some time to sit down, relax, drink a hot tea or water and if you want to, reflect and try to feel how your body/energy/feelings may have shifted. If you like journaling, you could also reflect on the following questions:

-what kind of shifts do you notice?

-how did you feel before the shower and how do you feel now?

-if you have done it for the first time, think about if you would do it the same way again next time and if not, what would you want to change?

I suggest to take it easy for the rest of the day/evening and make sure you stay hydrated.

Enjoy and happy showering!
